Ingredients to Create a Blissful Life #46: Giggle

Teeheeheehee guess what we’re talking about this week?

Your 46th ingredient for 2015 is: Giggle!

So I have to say, giggling is one of my absolute favourite things to do. Consider the space you must be in to really do giggling well. It’s a bit mischievous, a bit effervescent, a bit silly all rolled into one. And usually when we’re giggling it’s because it’s not perhaps the most appropriate moment to have a big old belly laugh and we’re trying to hold it back? Belly laughs are great, but this little laugh that just bubbles up in spite of our efforts to stop it is even funnier for me!

Now, tell me, when was the last time you giggled? Maybe you’re like me and it happens all the time, or maybe you’re in a space where there hasn’t been much to giggle about for a while. That’s ok.

You may know that I took a class on how to teach laughter yoga at the beginning of the year. It was a pretty big deal for a little while. The idea (in a very small nutshell) is that you can laugh on purpose andĀ receive all of the same health benefits you get from real laughter, fabulous right? And I worked with it for a while and it’s true – your core muscles begin to feel it quickly and after an hour of laughing on purpose, even the really fit people who joined me for classes felt it! There are enormous benefits from a physical health standpoint! Lowered blood pressure, better circulation, pain management and the list just goes on and on. It turns out that laughter really is the best medicine!

So if you’re in a space where there’s not much to laugh about, maybe it starts with laughing on purpose. Maybe it starts with playing more – and by play I mean anything that brings you joy, but if it’s fun andĀ involves children, you can bet there will be some giggling at some point. Usually, when there’s not much laughter, we’ve gotten out of touch with our bodies and our spirits and we’re really living in our heads. So try getting physical, try doing something that makes your heart sing. And if all else fails, listen to babies laughing while imagining lying on the floor with fluffy baby animals crawling all over you.

It’s so important to have some happy in your life, and one of the greatest things about learning the laughter yoga was seeing that it really does become genuine for almost everyone at some point. What happens to you when you hear someone laughing their head off? It’s contagious, right? And let’s get real, it feels REALLY good!!!

Your choice this week is an easy one. Find some funny or don’t. I know there are some people who would rather be quite serious and we need you too so it’s all good. I, on the other hand, prefer the giggles and will likely try to crack you up if I come into contact with you so be prepared! HAHA

What do you choose?
